Over his career, Don Wallance designed fourteen industrially produced flatware patterns for H. E. Lauffer, five of which are entering the collection with this acquisition. The Design 3 (1968) finish is “semi-satin,” not brushed as earlier patterns by Wallance. The handles are long, narrow, and curved, and show less of a preoccupation with ergonomics as other Wallance designs. Wallance said, “The forms of Design 3 are intended to express a counterpoint of elegance and strength, flowing beauty and precision. Feel and balance in the hand are important aspects of this design.”
