“Fei Tian Meng” is a crowded, collage-like painting of the chaos of urban life in China’s mega-cities. Five harshly lit, cartoon-like figures are crowded into the foreground – a woman, a man, a young boy in a baseball cap, a military officer, and an astronaut. There is tension about them, and they glance out of the corners of their large eyes as if on alert. In the background, painted in mostly primary colors, a chaotic conglomeration of architectural elements, brands, signs, text, and lights compete for attention. The effect mimics the multisensory experience of walking through a busy city at night, and the viewer can almost hear the traffic. Zhao Bo was born in 1974 in Chongqing Sichuan province, China. He graduated from the Sichuan Institute of Fine Arts in 1998 and currently lives and works in Chongqing, China.
