Wood and injection-molded polypropylene
Manufactured by Plank Collezioni Srl, Italy
Gift of Plank, Italy, 2010.7

Konstantin Grcic’s Monza chair demonstrates the minimalism that characterizes much of his work. The materials are treated simply and according to their nature: the handcrafted wood body is clean and straight-lined, while the polypropylene arm-and-backrest forms a graceful curve for which the injection-molding process is particularly suited. This somewhat unconventional pairing of materials stemmed from Grcic’s desire to incorporate Plank’s long history of handcrafted wood furniture into his vision for a modern, mass-producible chair.
