International Landscape depicts a city of sky-scrapers viewed from a considerable distance.  Vague columnar forms appear to crumble in the foreground. The landscape as a whole is fuzzy and distorted.  As the title suggests, this could be any city. Yan Lei is interested in the idea of globalization and its effects. He had his first solo exhibition at the Aspen Art Museum where his work was described as follows: “Yan Lei's images hold the viewer at arms length, dissolving into abstract monochromes as the viewer approaches them.”
