平和 — Peace

August 6, 1985 marked the fortieth anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, Japan. To raise awareness among a new generation and to remind the world of the atomic bomb’s destructive power, American and Japanese designers were called upon to create peace-themed posters for the exhibition Images for Survival. This and the three other posters on this wall are examples from that exhibition. Their images of annihilation, fragility, and the possibility for friendship are an impassioned plea to not forget the past.
