Francis Ruyter combines the aesthetic of pop art with a sense of melancholy and isolation.  In his hands, ordinary photographs are transformed into large-scale neon billboards.  But instead of advertising the latest material craze or the glamorous lives of the stars, his paintings advertise highways, suburban backyards, and other prosaic scenes of everyday life.
Ruyter often suggests a world of secrets, lies, and even violence hidden right below the surface.
