Vik Muniz refashions famous images from popular culture or art history using unusual materials and then photographs them for posterity. A satirical realist, Muniz creates works made of highly unconventional materials including spaghetti, chocolate syrup, and sugar. For this portrait of a TV newsman, Muniz began with a photograph of his subject, and then chose a medium he found appropriate to the content. For "Light Filter (Ted Koppel)", Muniz chose to replicate a pixilated video screen. Using a camera and a light box as his media, he produced an image that speaks to the digital age.
