Mellyn is known for his deliberate, airbrushed, and over simplified portraits that appear to be inspired by postwar snapshots and advertising photos. “Reassessing Resuscitation” depart from Mellyn’s usually Technicolor palette. In black and white, these works each depict a single figure with a white paper bag over the head. Small eye and mouth holes are cut out so that the figure is barely identifiable.
Sean Mellyn received his BFA from Pratt Institute. He currently lives New York where he teaches painting at the School of Visual Arts.
