Fernando Alvim is influenced by the American expressionist painter Jean-Michel Basquiat. The Angolan-born artist, who currently lives in Brussels, often uses simple forms, graffiti-like images, and thick layers of brightly colored paint. This painting's title refers to the thousands who were maimed by landmines during and after the Angolan civil war, which lasted more than 20 years.
