Extended Info

“I’ve been a horse girl all my life,” says artist Deborah Butterfield, who has sculpted nothing but horses since 1973. She claims her work is not about what horses look like, but about who they are. Over the years, she has used a variety of materials to make each sculpture including plaster, scrap metal, mud, clay, and sticks. Through these materials, Butterfield strives to capture the essence, mood, and pose that individualizes each horse.
