For his Self Portrait series, Winokur made pictures of people, things, and a cat named Zorba that hint at his personal history, influences on his development as an artist, and his life at the time he created the work. This walk down memory lane is rendered in vivid colors and with a deadpan formality that seem to collide with the idea of nostalgia. How much of himself does Winokur reveal—and how much of this is a spoof?
