This rare example of a beaded "box and border" robe, made and used by women, is extremely unusual. Nearly all others of this style were painted on hide rather than beaded. The design is said to represent the internal organs of the bison.

Made by the artist, about 1870; Acquired by Major Wright, the Spotted Tail (Rosebud) Reservation, SD, after 1870; Sold by the daughter of Major Wright,1923; Acquired by L. D. Bax, Denver, Denver, CO, 1947; Purchased by the Denver Art Museum, 13 January 1948.
