Maria and Julian Martinez, famous for black-on-black style pottery, also sculpted and painted pieces in the polychrome style. Previously cataloged as “Artist: San Ildefonso”, Maria Martinez identified herself as the sculptor and Julian Martinez as the painter of this particular Jar in 1954 when representatives from the Denver Art Museum took multiple pieces to her home for identification.
