Take the Time: Mindfulness for Kids

Use this mandala coloring page to practice mindfulness after reading the book. Take time to look at the Tibetan Hayagriva Mandala made of sand that inspired the coloring page.

Creating a mandala takes a lot of patience and dedication, traditionally practiced by monks in a sacred space. Taking a moment to slow down when big feelings arise can be helpful in many situations. Practicing a mental pause can help one clarify how to respond in a difficult situation and make space to empathize with others.

Read Roegiers’ book Take the Time: Mindfulness for Kids together and talk with your little one about their thoughts on the benefits of taking the time to pause.

Prompting Questions:

  • What are somethings that make the world feel “topsy-turvy” to you?

  • What might make the world feel “topsy-turvy” to someone else?

  • How can you notice when someone else’s head is spinning and heal their hurt feelings?

  • What will you do next time you feel like you need to slow down?
