The Mayer Collection of Art from Ancient Costa Rica
The Denver Art Museum houses the finest collection of art from ancient Costa Rica in the United States. The art spans approximately 2,000 years, and encompasses all of Costa Rica's major cultural regions and artistic traditions. Human beings, animals, and fantastic supernatural creatures are represented in ceramic, stone, jade, gold, shell, and resin.
The Denver Art Museum gratefully acknowledges the work of 2012-2014 Mayer Fellow, Dr. Carrie Dennett (University of Calgary, Canada). Her scholarship on the Costa Rican collection is reflected within this online collection.
