Rembrandt Tours & Programs

Take a deeper dive into Rembrandt's life and work with exciting programs related to the exhibition Rembrandt: Painter as Printmaker.

This exhibition is included with general admission, which is free for members and youth 18 and younger. Please check individual listings below for event prices.

Classes

How to Look at Prints: On September 15 join teaching specialist Molly Medakovich for a class on printmaking techniques and tools of 17th-century Europe. $20 members/$25 nonmembers

Drop-in Writing: 1-3 pm on September 25 an instructor from Lighthouse Writers Workshop will lead visitors to explore their writing in the Rembrandt exhibition. Included with general admission.

Drop-in Drawing: 1-3 pm on October 9 artist Anna Kaye will lead a fun, informal drawing session in Rembrandt. Included with general admission.

Course

Rembrandt: An Artist & His World is a four-session course on Saturdays, October 13 & 20, November 10, and December 15. Join art historians who will explore Rembrandt's life and career, his experimental artistic approaches, a sense of his place among his contemporaries, and insight into the exhibition's development. $75 members/$85 nonmembers

Family Game

Kids and families can explore the subject and techniques of a master artist and be a printmaker like Rembrandt in a fun game in the exhibition. Included with general admission.

Mindful Looking

Mindful Looking invites visitors to spend time with a single artwork. At 1-1:45 pm on November 20 linger, look at, and discuss an artwork from the exhibition with interpretive specialist Stefania Van Dyke. Included with general admission.

Tactile Tables

October is Art Beyond Sight Awareness Month. Join us at 11 am on October 12 and 13 to explore works of art inspired by Rembrandt: Painter as Printmaker using our senses other than sight. Included with general admission.

Tours

Guided tours of Rembrandt: Painter as Printmaker will be offered daily at 2 pm beginning September 16. Included with general admission.

Join docents in the exhibition for 30-minute Talk at 12 tours at noon on October 3 and 5 (Rembrandt the Storyteller) and October 31 and November 2 (The Many Faces of Rembrandt). Included with general admission.

Talks and Lectures

Timothy J. Standring will present a lecture on the exhibition at 6:30 pm on September 7 as part of the Friends of Painting & Sculpture annual meeting. The lecture is open to all. Included with general admission.

Standring also will lead a discussion about in the exhibition galleries for a Conversation with a Curator at 4 pm on October 5. Included with general admission.

Book Signing

Purchase the book Rembrandt: Painter as Printmaker and get it signed by the author in The Shop! On September 15, 11 am–noon Standring will be on hand in The Shop to sign copies. Note: The Member Preview on September 15 is sold out. The exhibition opens to the public on September 16.
