On November 6, The Museum Associates, patrons, and, sponsors gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Wyeth: Andrew and Jamie in the Studio, the Denver Art Museum’s groundbreaking exhibition exploring the art of Andrew Wyeth and his son Jamie Wyeth.
Dressed in elegant black tie, nearly 650 guests enjoyed the Opening Gala, held at the Frederic C. Hamilton Building.
In the El Pomar Atrium, Arthur Williams of Babylon Floral created tumbleweed “clouds” painted in brightly colored lights (as seen in the photo above), which called to mind the rustic elements of many of the Wyeths' paintings. The tumbleweed “clouds” were perfectly accented by the autumnal-inspired florals created by volunteers of the museum’s Flower Council.
Austin Cueto, Executive Chef and Partner of Kevin Taylor Restaurant Group, created a menu with New England touches as a nod to the Wyeths' summer home in Maine. Guests enjoyed delicious lobster rolls and adorable miniature blueberry pies.
Christoph Heinrich, Frederick and Jan Mayer Director of the DAM; Jodi Rolland of Bank of America, presenting sponsor of the exhibition; and Timothy J. Standring, Gates Foundation Curator of Painting and Sculpture and curator of Wyeth presented welcoming remarks. Then guests heard from artist Jamie Wyeth, who spoke lovingly about his late father’s legacy.
Following remarks, the exhibition opened for guests to be the first to experience the stunning exhibition featuring over 100 works by the Wyeths.
A vibrant art museum can only exist with a robust and active membership base. The Museum Associates is an ideal way to support the museum and to gain access to all it has to offer. This leadership-level membership program offers participants the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the DAM while building a deeper relationship with the museum through special events with curators that offer first access to the DAM’s exciting exhibition openings like the Wyeth Gala.
