Cheryl St. John will be in the Flower Studio on August 15 and 16 demonstrating oil painting.
Cheryl St. John, a fourth generation Colorado native, dedicates time every week to paint en plein air, or in the open air. Primarily working with landscape, St. John is inspired by the beauty of the Colorado mountains and the outdoors. She studied fine art and design at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and the Art Institute of Colorado. St. John is currently the vice president of the American Impressionist Society, an associate member of Oil Painters of America, and signature member of Plein Air Artists Colorado and the Colorado Watercolor Society. She has won many awards, including the Grand Prize for her painting Awaiting Spring in the Capitol Christmas Tree Art Competition in 2012.
St. John shows in six galleries, and is constantly working on large paintings in her studio. She recently attended the Douglas Land Conservancy (DLC) Plein Air Invitational, a weeklong fundraising event for DLC, and the Continental Divide Land Trust Plein Air Invitational located in Breckenridge. St. John states, “I believe in preserving open space in Colorado so these two events are very special to me.” Currently in her studio, St. John is working on large paintings from studies done in Crested Butte, "the wildflower capital of Colorado." While working en plein air is challenging, St. John succeeds in capturing the feeling of the moment.
