February 2018 Family Fun

Dear Families,

We invite you to fall in love with art in February at the Denver Art Museum!

Swoon over Free First Saturday (February 3)

Free First Saturday on February 3 will have you swooning with joy! Take a walk on the wild side in the family fun space, A Walk in the Woods! Play, imagine, and make art to take home. Spot birds in a colorful flock, mix-and-match animal costumes to create new creatures; build horse sculptures inspired by artist Deborah Butterfield, and make a shadowbox to display your favorite creatures.

Drop in and listen to the stories behind the objects at the bilingual program Cuentos del Arte. Stories are at 11:30 am and 1 pm.

Show Your Fave Art Some Love (February 7-14)

Join the DAM and other museums across the country to spread the love with Hearts for Art. From February 7–February 14, you’re invited to show your love for a favorite work of art by placing a paper heart on the floor in front of your artwork crush.

Dance with Degas (February 11)

The exhibition, Degas: A Passion for Perfection opens on February 11 with a brand new audio guide for kids. You’re invited to figure out clues to art mysteries with Giulia, Degas’ niece. Find fun things in the paintings and sculptures, explore Degas’ art studio, and try your hand at a grid drawing. This exhibition requires an additional ticket.

Crush on Foxy & Shmoxy (February 11)

On February 11, our resident fox art detectives will be at it again with a new clue. Pick up a letter from the Fox Box and follow the hints and (paw) prints to catch Foxy and Shmoxy: Art Detectives in the galleries at 10:30 am and 11:30 am. Catch these fox super-sleuths in action!

Spread the love at Create Playdate (February 14)

Create Playdate returns with hands-on activities for kids ages 3-5 and their adults. Join us on February 14th, Valentine’s Day, from 10 am–1 pm as we head into Linking Asia: Art, Trade, and Devotion. Make your own wall hanging featuring a tree of life and your own blooming designs.

Adore your own creations at the Create-n-Takes every weekend

Picture yourself as an abstract artist and experiment with building your own snowy landscape! The Create-n-Take program is offered every weekend from 10:30 am–4 pm and is located on level 3 of the Hamilton Building until February 25! Also be sure to check out the other Create-n-Take, Sew Wild, as it continues on the level 4 of the Stampede exhibition. All ages can pick up a needle and yarn and try some easy stitches inspired by Carol Eckert’s sculpture, Beware of Cranes.

Devote some time to Gallery Games

Determined to see new places in 2018? Explore the Asian continent without leaving Denver in Linking Asia. Choose one of three different family gallery games, and find all of the objects on your list as you travel across Asia and through time. Spot ink paintings from Japan, objects pulled from shipwrecks, colorful textiles, and more!

Love,

The Denver Art Museum
