Don't Miss the DAM's Virtual Friendship Powwow September 12

The Denver Art Museum 31st Annual Friendship Powwow is going virtual! The powwow is one of the Denver Art Museum’s and SCFD’s longest running events. Here’s a few things you can expect to see on Facebook and YouTube September 12:

Dance Competition

On the day of the powwow you’ll see the top three dancers, selected by judges. At the end of the event, the winner of each category will be announced.

Features of Local Dancers

We will start off each category on September 12 with an exhibition dance of that style by a local dancer, and an interview of the dancer with the MC. If you’re new to powwows, you’ll be able to learn more about the different dance styles during these features.

Crafts for Sale on the Facebook Event Page

On the day of the powwow, check out the Facebook event page. Native American artisans are invited to post their websites, eBay pages, or other methods of sale on the Facebook page for attendees to see.

In-depth Look at Dance Regalia in the Denver Art Museum Collection

You’ll also be able to see some of the dance regalia in the Denver Art Museum’s Indigenous arts of North America collection. Curators John Lukavic and Dakota Hoska will talk about a few of these pieces, their historical significance, and their importance today.

Cooking Demonstration with Ben Jacobs (Owner, Tocabe) and Jan Jacobs

Jan and Ben Jacobs will show you how to make American Indian cuisine during this demonstration.
