Ad designed by Herbert Bayer with Alexander Hamilton quote

The Denver Art Museum's Connection to Alexander Hamilton

History has its eyes on Denver with Hamilton: An American Musical opening at the Buell Theater tonight. Like the rest of the city, the Denver Art Museum has Hamilton fever.

In honor of the Tony-winning musical, we're sharing this ad that is part of the Herbert Bayer Collection and Archive at the DAM. It was created as part of a series with quotes from famous historical figures called Great Ideas of Western Man. The series was created by the Container Corporation of America in 1950. Bayer was an art director for early ads in the series.

It is of great importance in a republic not only to guard against the oppression of its rulers, but to guard one part of society against the injustice of the other part.
