Volunteer Services

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Denver Art Museum. Volunteers are a vital part of our operation and we are fortunate to have approximately 475 active volunteers serving at the DAM.

We are not seeking new volunteers at this time. If you are interested in being put on our waitlist for other future opportunities, please fill out and submit our online volunteer application form including which volunteer position below is of interest to you. You will be contacted as positions become available in the future. Please read some basic information below to see if volunteering at the Denver Art Museum would be a good fit for you.

All Volunteers:

  • Are at least 18 years of age
  • Pass a required security background check
  • Maintain an active museum membership
  • Pay annual council dues (varies between councils, between $10 & $25)
  • Build a relationship with the DAM and support the museum's mission
  • Are flexible, friendly, and enjoy working with others
  • Deliver A+ customer service and support the mission of the museum

Current Volunteers:


Volunteer Corps

  • Commit to two 3.5 hour shifts each month on a flexible schedule for at least a year
  • Welcome, direct, and engage our visitors at museum entrances and throughout the galleries
  • Assist in interactive family areas
  • Commit to two 3.5 hour shifts each month on a regular schedule for at least a year
  • Welcome and engage our visitors in a retail environment
  • Assist staff with bagging, pricing, and shop maintenance
  • Enjoy working with families and facilitating our interactive merchandise demo area
  • Complete provisional docent training (one+ days a week for nine months)
  • Upon completion of provisional docent training and graduation, commit to one day a week of service on a set day (Tues. – Fri.) for at least three years
  • Attend exhibition and museum training sessions regularly during weekdays
  • Lead tours for school groups (kindergarten through college) as well as adult tours and daily museum tours
  • Commit to a minimum of ten 3.5 hour shifts each year; mainly on Monday mornings
  • Work in collaboration with other volunteers to create weekly arrangements for the entrances of both buildings as well as for special museum events
  • Assist staff members in various museum departments with administrative duties (filing, data-entry, research, etc.)
  • Commit to one or two 3.5 hour shifts during each work week on a regular schedule for at least a year
