The Denver Art Museum is thriving, and it is thanks to the more than 450 dedicated volunteers that we are moving forward every day. Our volunteers are the smiling face of the museum and collectively contribute over 40,000 hours of service every year in a variety of capacities. We think our volunteers are the heart of the DAM. They are an intelligent, enthusiastic, and friendly bunch that enrich the lives of our staff and visitors. More
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a tour guide at a museum or what a person has to do to become one?
One of the most rewarding parts of my job at the Denver Art Museum is having the opportunity to train and work with tour guides, or as we call them, docents. Training a new class of docents certainly requires a strong commitment from the institution in both staff time and resources as well as a strong commitment from docent mentors and provisional docents (docents in training), yet it’s well worth it in the end since it results in enriching our visitors’ experience. Our art is wonderful, but Denver Art Museum volunteers are even more vibrant! Nearly 470 volunteers give more than 40,000 hours of their time, energy, and expertise every year helping visitors maneuver through the museum and engage with art in dynamic ways. Our volunteers are the real stars of the museum and we greatly appreciate their committed service. They are knowledgeable, interesting, friendly, and fun. They brighten the day of staff members and museum visitors alike. More
