Join visiting artista-maestro (master-artist) Sergio Yony Reyes from Mexico City. Learn more about the art of cartonería—the creation of fantastical creatures, toys, figurines, and piñatas in papier-mâché. Get to know Maestro Reyes and ask him about his inspiration, technique, and process in creating his obras de arte - and don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty helping him mix, cut, paste, and paint!

One of the Denver Art Museum’s longest-running events, the 25th Annual Friendship Powwow and American Indian Cultural Celebration will feature American Indian dancers, drum groups, working artists, hands-on activities, vendors, and more. The DAM’s Friendship Powwow is a celebration of the vitality of American Indian cultures. Gourd dancing will begin at 10 a.m. with the powwow grand entry at noon. More

This summer, Jason Rogenes will transform the Precourt Discovery Hall into an immersive sculptural environment where families can play with custom cast “asteroids” to create otherworldly soundscapes. Part of a rich summer program focusing on sculpture, the installation—made out of cardboard and reclaimed Styrofoam—will encourage visitors to reconsider familiar and typically discarded materials for their artmaking possibilities. Help usher in our celebration of all things sculpture for the summer of 2014. Look for all new activities and games in the Just for Fun Center, new Create-n-Takes in the galleries, and get creative in the Sculpture Studio. Watch a live bronze pour on Martin Plaza from noon-3 p.m. with artist Rian Kerrane and the University of Colorado–Denver Sculpture Program. Free with museum admission, and children 5 and younger are always free. More

Did you know your children can now be card-carrying DAM members? We recently added the option for members at the Family level and above to register for kids cards. We noticed a trend of young art enthusiasts running up to check their families in for a day at the DAM, so we thought we’d make it official. Any child aged 18 or younger and residing in your household is eligible. More
