Of all the artists who became members of the Taos Society of Artists, Joseph H. Sharp was the first to visit Taos in 1893. Soon after, Sharp studied in Paris and Munich before returning to the South-west. With its use of bright colors and gestural brushstrokes, this painting reveals the influence of Impressionism in addition to Sharp’s traditional academic training.
