Stop the Plant was a community-driven campaign to prevent the construction of a massive coal-fired cement plant in New York’s scenic Hudson Valley. The plant’s monolithic smokestack—over forty stories high—would have emitted pollutants and dominated the rural landscape. To build awareness, designer and area resident Woody Pirtle created this threatening image of a conventional smokestack as a blight against the blue sky.
