This vestment was worn by the priest celebrating the Mass. The central band, or orphrey, depicts two saints associated with the Carmelite order -- St. Albert (died 1214), who wrote the original rule for hermits living at Mount Carmel, and St. Teresa of Avila (born 1515), a Spanish Carmelite nun who reformed the Order. Also shown are the Virgin and Child and the defeat of Lucifer by the Archangel Michael. Bouquests of naturalistic flowers embellish the rest of the vestment perhaps made in a convent, the chasuble bears and unidentified coat of arms at center bottom.
