Three-legged cylindrical vessels are typical of Teotihuacán, a huge city located north of modern Mexico City.  Relatively few vessels with matching lids are preserved.  This vessel has a burnished surface into which the design was scratched.  Others were covered with white stucco after firing and painted with vivid mineral pigments.
