Private collection, near Bordeaux, France. (Matthiessen, London); on joint account from December 1937 with (Jacques Seligmann & Co., New York, stock #6478)[1]; sold to Samuel H. Kress [1863-1955] on 10 May 1950; gifted to the Denver Art Museum,1961.176 [1] Jacques Seligmann records, Archives of American Art, Collectors Files Box 204, General Correspondence Box 64, Purchase Receipts, Box 290, document acquisition by Seligmann from Matthiesen in December 1937. Matthiesen does not disclose his source for the picture. Artist listed as "French School". Provenance research is on-going at the Denver Art Museum and we will post information as it becomes available.
