Martin Maloney depicts two women in an awkward embrace. Using thick, lush paint and seductive color, he makes an empathetic yet somewhat humorous record of the 1990s singles scene in London. He says that the then-outré subject represents “my fantasies and the reality of who I am and who I want to be.” Could the artist possibly be one of the figures dressed in woman’s clothing?
