Untitled, George Woodman

“George Woodman used multiple exposures on the same piece of film to create this photograph," explains photography curator Eric Paddock.

"The way it layers art historical images, it’s as if Woodman has opened his memory to recall every artwork he has ever seen. Our memories are like our dreams, sometimes: everything gets jumbled together until something new emerges and it all makes a different kind of sense.”

This photograph is on view in Exposure: Photos from the Vault from April 30 through October 31, 2010.
