This lecture will show examples from many different sets of casta paintings including the only full set of 16 paintings in the United States in the Mayer Collection at the Denver Art Museum.
Beginning with an examination of the development of casta painting in colonial Mexico, Dr. Pierce will analyze in depth the rich details of daily life seen in them, and finally will look at the historical implications they reflect.
Doors open at 6 pm.
