In his presentation, Dr. Karl Taube will discuss recent discoveries of jade sources in the Motagua of eastern Guatemala, as well as technical aspects of working the stone along with its sensual qualities concerning touch and sound as well as sight. In addition, he will also describe in detail some of the major symbolic themes of this stone among the ancient Maya, along with jade being related to maize and the ethereal soul spirit of breath and wind.
