The Petrie Institute of Western American Art presents their eleventh annual symposium, Set in the West: Telling Tales in Art and Film.
Led by scholars of art history and film studies, this full day symposium explores how artists and filmmakers influenced each other to shape the Western genre over time. Four presentations discuss early film technology, influential artists’ works, and famous Western films and their makers.
Set in the West is the precursor to Denver Art Museum's upcoming exhibition, The Western: An Epic in Art and Film, opening May 26, 2017.
