DAMC members are invited to enjoy Alexander Calder’s monumental sculptures in the splendor of twilight at the Denver Botanic Gardens.
Join the Denver Art Museum’s Vicki and Kent Logan Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art Rebecca Hart and the Denver Botanic Gardens' Director of Exhibitions, Art and Interpretation Lisa Eldred for a private reception and tour. They will share insight about Calder’s work and discuss the extraordinary endeavor that brought his art to the gardens.
American artist Alexander Calder (1898-1976) is considered one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century and is known for his bold energetic sculptures. Calder: Monumental features these iconic works of bolted steel plate – which rise in sweeping curves, or puncture space with geometric lines – revealing the artist’s exploration of forms, volumes, and voids. Using shapes that resonate with the natural world, Calder’s large lively abstractions interact with the surrounding landscape.
Doors open at 5:30 pm. Enter through the Piñon Gate located on the west side of York Street, directly north of the Bonfils-Stanton Visitor Center (main entrance on York Street).
Reception will be in the All-America Selections Garden. The event is outdoors; dress accordingly for the weather.
Space is limited for this exclusive event; get your ticket now. Following the reception and tour, you’re welcome to enjoy the Gardens until it closes at 9 pm.
