Kim Sungsoo is director of the Tongyeong Ottchil Art Museum with its fine collection of modern Korean lacquer art. Born in 1935, he taught for over thirty years in Korea and for the Office National de l’Artisanat Tunisien in 1973‒75. He is currently the chair and professor of Ottchil (lacquer) Arts at Dongbang Graduate University in Seoul. Kim is a pioneer in modernizing contemporary Korean lacquer art. In his lecture, he discusses traditional Korean lacquers and the creative development seen in new artworks.
