Art & About tours are designed for visitors with early-stage Alzheimer's or dementia and their care partners. Experience and discuss art together on a tour led by a specially trained guide on the second Thursday of the month. Themes change every month.
Meet in North Building, Level 2, Duncan Pavilion. Tour and general admission to the museum are free for registered participants, but space is limited.
January 12: Fantastic Fashion
Coco Chanel once said, "I don't do fashion. I am fashion." This month we'll visit the special exhibit Shock Wave: Japanese Fashion Design, 1980s-90s, and discuss the importance of clothing in our world, and discover just how clothes can make the man, and woman. Reservations will be accepted starting January 1.
February 9: Rites & Rituals in the Asian Collection
We all have rituals that we perform, ranging from formal holiday activities and religious celebrations to informal habits like wearing pink for Valentine's Day. This month we will explore objects from our Asian collection and examine their ceremonial importance. Reservations will be accepted starting February 1.
March 9: Old Friends
This month we’ll revisit some of our favorite paintings from the European and American Art collection, sharing memories about why we love them and reminiscing on the importance of friends. Reservations will be accepted starting March 1.
April 13: All That Glitters
This month we’re on a gold rush! Join us as we discover the fascinating story of people and luxury possessions found in the paintings from our Spanish Colonial collection. Reservations will be accepted starting April 1.
