23rd Annual Denver Art Museum Friendship Powwow

Join us for one of the DAM’s longest running events. Experience powwow dance and pageantry, participate in a community mural project, enter to win prize drawings, browse vendor booths, and enjoy your first (or 101st) piece of fry bread.

Event schedule:

10 am — Gourd dancing begins.

Noon — Powwow grand entry.

11 am–1 pm — Bead with local artist Denise Litz and friends.

10:30 am–4 pm — Paint a Hopi tile with artists Crow Medina and Grams Castro.

10 am–4 pm — Work with Walt Pourier of the Strong Hold Society on a community mural.

10 am–4 pm — Make gold inspired jewelry, design your own wacky building, create a mask and check out a backpack!

10 am–4 pm — Stronghold Society's Let My People Skate: Telling our Stories of Old Through the Creative Movements of Today. The Stronghold Society, artist Walt Pourier, and the group's youth mentors will have a large stretched canvas on a wooden frame creating a skateboard-stretched hide effect on which youth can paint. They also will be able to make an artwork to take home. The theme highlights one of the campaign focuses of the Stronghold Society, in this case the native skate culture movement and building skate parks in Native Country. Ledger art and pictograph art samples will be out for reference.
