Travel the World with New Create-n-Takes

Join us as we crisscross the globe for a new season of Create-n-Takes and make art in the galleries—no passport required.

First stop on our journey: India! Look closely at the museum’s collection of oil lamps from eastern India and create your own shining lantern at Light the Way (Level 5, North Building). Discover all the different reasons to light an oil lamp, whether to brighten a room, or to celebrate festivals like Diwali, a national Indian celebration. Get inspired by the details and patterns you see in front of you as you create your own peacock or elephant lamp. Use it to light the way as we travel to our next stop: Africa!

Meet by the museum’s nkisi nkondi figure, made in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This nkisi [en-KEE-see] is a tool used to resolve arguments, ward off bad deeds, or seal an oath. At A Promise to Keep make a promise to yourself or your travel companions, and bind it with a colorful seal (Level 4, Hamilton Building).

Your journey can continue far beyond Africa and India. Use the Fun Things for Families to do Today brochure as your guide to more fun, hands-on adventures on every floor of the museum. Happy travels!
