Behind the Scenes at the DAM

Prepping for Untitled #58 (Getup) & Soundsuits Performance on June 28

June 27 update: Here is the program for this month's Untitled.

Last Thursday, a truck came in from Chicago with what may be the most exciting set of boxes to receive outside Christmas. The Soundsuits for Nick Cave’s Untitled #58 (Getup) performance had arrived.

Inside the boxes, we found three sets of Soundsuits (and one other top-secret box), ranging from three-piece raffia ensembles to the most amazingly colorful towers of hair.  Last Friday and Monday, dancers from Cleo Parker Robinson Dance, 3rd Law and Wonderbound visited the DAM to try on the Soundsuits for the first time.  Raffia Soundsuits came alive, some towering almost eight feet tall. The musicians also met up with the dancers to work their creative magic in designing the sounds for the night.

We can’t divulge too much of what went down—you are just going to have to come on down to Untitled this Friday to see it for yourself. We will have the performance streaming live throughout the museum so you won’t be the only one standing in the snack line who didn’t see that awesome break dance move. The performance and live stream will be at 7–8pm.

The performance isn’t all that’s happening at Untitled. This month we are looking at the stylish side of Spun: Adventures in Textiles with a focus on clothing. There will be detours by a denim apostle and the costume designers for Central City Opera. DAM curator Nancy Blomberg will give an insider look at Red, White & Bold: Masterworks of Navajo Design, 1840-1870, while master teacher Molly Medakovich goes on a fashion filed trip to share how the west was worn in Western Duds. Local fashion designer Mona Lucero will share her latest creation inspired by Material World. As always Buntport Theater will be poolside, but happening at revised time of 8:15 & 8:45 pm. We are wheeling out the Untitled karaoke booth and setting up workshops to make your own art-inspired accessories. (Your choice if you use them as a disguise in the karaoke booth!)

P.S. Did you know Charlie asked Joan out on a date? Things are heating up at the freight elevator pool.

See you at Untitled #58 (Getup) this Friday, 6–10pm. You can view the event listing on our calendar and RSVP on Facebook.
