Nick Cave: Sojourn invites visitors to join artist Nick Cave on a visual and emotional journey. This show, which contains almost all new work, offers a cross-section of sculptures and installations that are representative of Cave’s 25-year career.
Cave is a pioneer among a growing number of artists exploring the intersection of craft, performance, and fine art. For the first time in an exhibition of this size, Cave has infused Sojourn with a narrative that moves from closed-in contemplation to wide-open exuberance, with surprises and key artistic milestones along the way.
Similar to how dance and drama are no longer bound by an imaginary “fourth wall” between performers and audience, Cave has extended the stage into the museum gallery. In this sense Sojourn is very much a shared experience between viewer and artist.
Nick Cave: Sojourn is a special ticketed exhibition on view June 9-September 22, 2013.
Nick Cave: Sojourn is organized by the Denver Art Museum. The exhibition is made possible through the significant support of Vicki and Kent Logan, U.S. Bank, and PB&K Family Foundation. Additional funding is provided by the generous donors to the Annual Fund Leadership Campaign and the citizens who support the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). Promotional support is provided by 5280 Magazine, CBS4, and The Denver Post.
