November 2017 Family Fun

Fall programming has definitely kicked into high gear at the Denver Art Museum. Come visit us and take part in our countless family offerings as we celebrate the final weeks before the North Building Renovation project gets underway. Youth 18 and under receive free general admission to the DAM.

Kicking off a very busy November is Free First Saturday. On November 4, drop in and listen to the stories behind the objects with storytellers during our bilingual program Cuentos del Arte. Stories are at 11:30 am and 1 pm.

Also available on weekends are our favorite Family Backpacks. They will be taking a break during the North Building renovation so be sure to check them out before we bid farewell.

Trek through the galleries with a Family Backpack filled with artmaking, games, and puzzles. Each backpack holds a different adventure and can be picked up at the Family Activity Cart in the Hamilton Building, level 1.

Also make sure to stop by our Create-n-Takes. “Screen Stories” will be up and running until November 19 in the China gallery. This is a drop-in, in-gallery artmaking project where you get to discover an ancient Chinese story depicted in a beautifully crafted screen and create your own mini version.

In Stampede: Animals in Art our newest Create-n-Take, “Home on the Range,” features the wintry scene in Theodore Waddell’s, Motherwell’s Angus, and his unique painting techniques. Explore the concept of abstraction by layering and mixing colors to create your own landscape that reminds you of home.

Create Playdate has returned with hands-on activities for kids ages 3-5 and their adults. Join us on November 8, from 10 am to 1 pm for one last story time in the North Building as we explore the Then, Now, Next exhibition with a special guest appearance by ReCreative.

On November 12, our resident fox art detectives will be at it again with a new clue. Pick up a letter from the Fox Box and follow the hints and (paw) prints to catch Foxy and Shmoxy: Art Detectives in the galleries at 10:30 am and 11:30 am.

Following a very successful Fall Break last month, Thanksgiving Break is sure to be even more fun. Take advantage of a whole week, including Monday, November 20–26 (closed on Thanksgiving Day), to explore all of these interactive family programs.

Finally, if you are new to the DAM, we would love your help with our upcoming family panels. Please take a few moments to fill out this Survey Monkey link.
