Archaeological Materials & Ancient Art

As an institutional member of the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), the Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD), and the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the DAM is committed to following the AAMD Report on the Acquisition of Archaeological Materials and Ancient Art (PDF) and the 1970 UNESCO Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export, and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property.

In order to fulfill our commitment, ensure transparency, assist potential claimants and, in accordance with the above-mentioned guidelines, DAM staff will post objects accessioned into the collection after June 4, 2008, and lacking a complete ownership history after 1970. Find these objects on database registries operated by professional organizations to which we belong, including the AAMD Object Registry.
